An area on the rise, both community and residential
Historically, Dogpatch was made up of some of the oldest houses in San Francisco, as this area wasn’t affected by the 1906 earthquake. The historic core of Dogpatch is comprised of single-family homes and two-unit buildings, mixed in with commercial buildings. Over the past 10 years, live-work lofts and new apartment buildings have been filling in. Being one of the smallest neighborhoods in the city, there isn’t a whole lot of housing and rental stock – and notmuch turnover.
This now trendy area will be undergoing a dramatic change over the next five years, as many approved residential projects have begun breaking ground. As Dogpatch is the city’s original mixed-used neighborhood, during the week it’s busy and noisy with commercial business activity and construction noise. On weekends, however, not much is happening. What type of people live in Dogpatch? People who are authentic, creative, innovative, artistic, and neighborly. Due to UCSF Medical Center having built a major medical complex nearby, more people can be seen walking around in scrubs. Although San Francisco has a reputation for fog, you won’t find it in this part of town.
