Costaérès Castle dates back to the 19th century and is steeped in history, having originally been built for the Lithuanian-Polish mathematician, electrical engineer and inventor Bruno Abdank-Abakanowicz. It was constructed between 1892 - 1896 in the neo-Gothic style of historicism, modelled on medieval castles. The castle was a meeting place for many Polish emigrants, including Nobel Prize winner for literature Henryk Sienkiewicz. It inspired him to write his novel Quo Vadis, published in 1895, which was written at Costaérès Castle.

This magnificent castle is situated on the 2.5-acre island Île de Costaérès, which offers two sandy beaches, a romantic reddish granite rocky coastline and breath-ta- king views of Brittany’s imposing Côte de Granit Rose.

It was lovingly renovated in restored in the 1980s and boasts generous living space distributed across four floors and a basement. As well as five spacious bedrooms, the castle also includes multiple WCs and bathrooms, a fully-fitted kitchen, a sauna, a fitness room, panorama room, television room and several sumptuous terraces. Several fireplaces can be found throughout the castle, including one in the Knights‘ Hall, a large reception and banquet hall, with balustrade, providing the castle with a particular historical character. A dumbwaiter is located between ground floor and 1st floor.

The immaculately tended grounds - well-populated by trees, shrubs, flower beds and rock formations – also form home to a heated swimming pool (10.5 x 4.5 m) with massage jets, outbuildings and two romantic piers. Despite the exposed location and the sea-saline air, over 200 different species of trees, shrubs and flowers thrive on the island, mainly due to the Gulf Stream climate. The entire castle complex is surrounded by a rampart, which is a length of wall for- ming part of the defensive boundary of the castle. Whilst it’s possible to access the island on foot during low-tide, the sale also includes two boats to travel between the mainland and the island allowing for greater ease of access.

Central heating is in place and underwater cables and pipelines supply the island with power, drinking water and a telephone connection. A powerful parabolic antenna means that the island can pick up over 40 television channels.

The island is situated just 700 metres away from the charming fishing village of Plou- manach. As well as offering restaurants and other essential amenities, the village also boasts a wonderful beach and stunning examples of Breton architecture.

Water sports activities are very popular in this area. With no shortage of coastline or wind, Brittany has long been a destination for kitesurfers.

Perros-Guirec, a popular resort town, is also close by (4.5 km), as is the regional airport of Lannion (10km). Furthermore, the international airport at Brest is just over 100 km away.

In the summer, the area enjoys warm temperatures with an average of around 20°C and a pleasant breeze from the Atlantic keeps you cool. Winters are mild, with an average temperature of about 8 °C. Near the coast there is usually high humidity.
